Who We Are

Hello to all new students and a very warm welcome to

an independent Driving School owned by myself, Ray O' Connor.

Originally from Newbridge, Co. Kildare, I married a wonderful Rathangan lady, Patricia, (Trish) on 08 August 1997. We have 2 wonderful kids, David & Katie, and lived in Rathangan until August 2005, when we all eventually moved down to Portarlington, Co. Laois. They have supported me in this business since I left the Army in 2010.

What We Believe In

"To teach all students regardless of driving ability, the correct and safe way to drive on our nations roads, and to bring them to a standard that will not only be sufficient to allow them to pass their Driving Test, but that those skills will remain with them throughout their lives."

"Driving Is For Whole Life....Not Just A Test".

Remember that the vast majority of accidents occur within 2 miles of the victims home. You must remain focused at all times until you are safely parked up and the engine switched off.

After I retired in October 2010 from the Permanent Defence Forces having served over 22.5 years, I realised it was time to put the skills and knowledge that I had acquired over the years as an accident free Army Driver to some good use, and decided upon a career of teaching people how to drive, and getting them up to a standard that would enable them to pass their driving test. This would ensure total independence from the fact of having to be accompanied at all times by a qualified full licence driver and thereby setting them up for the future.

David O' Connor

Trainee Approved Driving Instructor

David is my 22 year old son and he will be joining the business in the near future. He passed his Learner Driving Test on his 1st attempt way back in May 2017 at the age of 18 and has his full licence now over 4 and a half years. He is currently in the process of undergoing his Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) training and has recently passed his ADI Stage 2 Driving Test in Athlone on Friday 12 November with a clean sheet after an hour and a quarter of driving, which is an amazing result at such a high standard of driving. He is now ready to sit his final ADI Stage 3 Instruction Ability Test. I am hoping he will be fully qualified to give lessons by late February 2022, depending on the current COVID-19 restrictions. I'm really excited and so looking forward to him coming on board and I have no doubt that with his soft calm approach, will prove a very valuable asset to
